Video chat camera or microphone not working? A practical checklist

Identify what is failing

Is your camera preview black, can the other person not hear you, or can you not hear them? Treat these as separate problems. End an active call before changing settings. Avoid repeatedly starting paid calls just to test a device.

Check both permission layers

Camera and microphone permissions are separate. Confirm that the Hopy website is https://hopy.kr, then inspect its camera and microphone permissions. Your operating system may also restrict the browser or Hopy app.

In desktop Chrome, open Settings, Privacy and security, then Site settings to check Camera and Microphone. On a phone, also check the browser or app permissions in device settings. Names differ by version. A work or school device may require help from its administrator.

If the picture is black

• Close other meeting apps and tabs using the camera.
• Check an external webcam connection and any physical lens cover.
• Select the intended camera if more than one is available.
• Reopen the browser or app after changing settings.

Separate audio input from output

If the other person cannot hear you, check the call mute control, headset mute switch and selected microphone. If you cannot hear them, check media volume and the speaker output. Bluetooth headphones may be receiving the sound. Temporarily disconnecting them can help identify the cause.

If the call keeps freezing

Compare on a stable network. Check your mobile data allowance before switching from Wi-Fi. Do not disable security protections or install unknown software to fix a call.

What to send to support

Note your device, operating system and browser versions, whether you used the app or website, the error message, and the time with time zone. Hide faces, conversations and payment details in screenshots. Do not record another person without permission. See Hopy support information.
